The curriculum: In the beautiful and inspiring Junior School at Cranwell House, the work of each year group focuses on different stages of development.
The Cranwell curriculum has been designed to be a diverse, engaging and girl-centred curriculum that provides unique learning opportunities alongside the breadth and depth required in order to achieve outstanding outcomes. The curriculum focuses on creative approaches to learning that enables girls to develop independent thinking and gain the skills of enquiry-based learning, whilst fostering an understanding of the world, citizenship and collective responsibility.
The curriculum ensures rigour and stimulates learning through a highly successful thematic approach. Walking around the historic and inspiring home, the sense of engagement and enthusiasm for learning is evident. The learning is varied, tailored to their interests and taught by the school’s exceptional teaching team who are committed to a girls-only approach. The teachers know what works and are experts in facilitating this.
Extra curricular activities: Girls have the opportunity to develop skills beyond the curriculum. From Year 3 to Year 6 the school offers a weekly ‘Inspire’ session enriching your daughter’s specific areas of interest. Year groups mix together to explore and discover new ideas through a choice of sessions such as Art Inspire, Coding Inspire, International Inspire, Navigation Inspire, Engineering Inspire and Entrepreneur Inspire.
As a girls’ school, the timetabled curriculum has been specifically designed to allow extra time for performing arts, sport, and languages. Students are encouraged to discover, then build on their individual talents.
The extra time the school provides for mastering talents has an impact on all aspects of school life, encouraging girls to aim higher and overcome obstacles in order to achieve their goals.
Pastoral care: Pastoral care and a strong sense of family makes the Nursery and Junior School a unique and special place to be. Students are recognised as individuals by all members of staff who help develop their personal strengths and talents. The teaching staff regularly work with different classes to guarantee that the school can really say ‘our girls are known by all’. Royal High prides itself on making sure it is there to support any individual need – be it the death of a much-loved pet, falling out with a friend, or a challenge in their work.
