Prior Park College is to extend its boarding to all year groups from September 2017, including years seven and eight.
Boarding currently starts from age 13 and above.
Headmaster James Murphy-O’Connor said: “As a result of an increase in demand for boarding in Bath and the unprecedented number of applications to the college, I and the governors believe it is the right time for boarding to be available on an occasional, weekly or full time basis, across all of our year groups.”
New boarders will be integrated into the current boarding houses, but as numbers grow the college expects to expand its facilities.
Boarding students represent approximately one third of the total pupil numbers at Prior Park which stands at 602 for this current academic year, which is its highest roll to date.
The college is one of four Prior Park Schools and as part of a group realignment, it is proposed that boarding will move from its prep school in Cricklade to Bath this September.
Mr Murphy-O’Connor said: “Prior Park Prep will utilise its current boarding facilities to create new learning zones for its increasing number of day pupils and focus on providing affordable, high quality, all-round education for its surrounding area.”
Prior Park College’s next open day is on Friday 3 March, 9.30 – 11.30am when prospective families are welcome to visit and have a tour of the school, seeing life at Prior on a normal working day.
