The Scott family (pictured) are coming out in force to support Dorothy House Hospice Care’s inaugural Bubble Rush in celebration of the care which the hospice has provided for their family.
Bubble Rusher Cheryl Scott explains: “In August 2015, my brother-in-law, aged 46, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). As it has become more progressive, Dorothy House has been there for him and his family 100%. He has had a number of therapies for relaxation and to try and ease the discomfort. There has also been support for my sister-in-law in caring for him.”
The Scott family have been raising funds for MND, and when they saw the Bubble Rush advertised they thought it would be a great event for the whole family to take part in and support the hospice. Moreover, Cheryl’s brother-in-law will be attending to watch his family in their foamy frolics.
Bubble Rush 2016, the first to take place in the south west, is taking place on Sunday 31 July at Castle Combe Race Circuit near Chippenham. Hundreds of entrants will run, skip and walk along a 5km route filled with rainbow coloured clouds of foam.
There are no age restrictions and the route is child-friendly and suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and prams. It is not a race – the aim is for everyone to pass the finish line frothy and smiling.
Entrants will take part in one of three waves starting at 3pm, 4pm or 5pm. The event has proved massively popular – 1,300 people are already signed up and the first wave is sold out. There is still some space on the Green Wave at 4pm and the Blue Wave at 5pm, so book quickly to avoid disappointment.
Emily Knight, Dorothy House events fundraiser, says: “We are so excited about this new family fundraising event for Dorothy House. What a great way to have foamy fun whilst raising money for the hospice at the same time.”
The Bubble Village will be party-central with a jazzy pre-event warm up routine, live entertainment, children’s activities and lots of delicious food. There’s fun for participants and spectators alike.
Entry is free for children aged three and under, children (aged four – 16) cost £7.50 and adults cost £25. All paying participants will receive a t-shirt and a medal.
There is no minimum sponsorship required but participants are encouraged to raise as much as they can for Dorothy House Hospice Care to help fund vital patient care and to celebrate the charity’s 40th birthday.
