Bath’s local children’s hospice, Charlton Farm has launched its Young Ambassadors Programme in Bath this academic year having run it in the Devon area for over four years. Ten year 12 students from Hayesfield School applied to join the programme and underwent interviews, received feedback and training from the charity during the Autumn term.
The charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) has three hospices across the South West, and they care for children and young people with life limiting or life threatening illnesses, and their families. The Young Ambassadors will look to raise awareness of the charity in the Bath area and fundraise for the this great cause, Chris Morgan, Head of Faculty at Hayesfield School said “We really appreciate the enriching opportunities the charity is providing our students through this Programme and the students have really benefited from the feedback they have received to date”.
In December, they presented their fundraising ideas in a Dragon’s Den style pitch to a panel of local business people which included Kim Abbott, Head of PR & Communications at Truespeed, Joshua Hale, Director at Bath Unlimited and Steve Gamlin, Relationship Director, Barclays Bank for the South West. They were very impressed with the quality of the presentations, and the students appreciated all the great feedback they received which will help develop on their ideas. Heidi Roberts, Area Fundraiser for B&NES for CHSW said “Myself and one of my volunteers, Claire Lawes have been so impressed with how the Young Ambassadors have developed since their interviews, and how they worked collaboratively on their pitches. The Programme has received great praise from schools and we hope to roll it out further in the Bath area in the next academic year”.
