Award-winning chartered accountancy firm Milsted Langdon has sponsored an award for a local school to encourage future business leader development.
Peter Groves, Milsted Langdon’s Bath office director, recently visited Millfield School in Street to judge the quality of business ventures Year 10 pupils had designed and planned at the end of a year’s tuition in enterprise-related subjects.
Four teams of four pupils, shortlisted from 80 hopeful entrants, formulated business plans capitalising on opportunities offered by the proliferation of mobile technology.
Each team gave a presentation to guest judge Peter, who specialises in strategic business and tax planning, the school’s head of business, Nick Williams and head of Year 10, Robert Furlong.
The judging panel awarded the competition prize to team ‘G Ove’, whose four innovators created a content streaming app that filters users’ preferences when suggesting online film and music choices. Each winning team member received a £25 iTunes voucher.
Speaking about the business venture, Peter said: “Every entry showed great merit and innovation, and selecting the most deserving team for the award was very difficult.
“I congratulate the winners on their inventiveness, research and preparation and wish them luck for the future.
“Milsted Langdon is proud of the support, advice and sponsorship it offers its local schools and colleges.
“We enjoy our work with students who are likely to be tomorrow’s entrepreneurs and hope our input incentivises them to succeed in business.”
