Sebastian

Lower Sixth Former Sebastian is designing and building a motorised battlefield stretcher for his A level Design Technology course.

“I am interested in a career in the military and wanted to be able to solve a real-world problem for the armed forces – that of treating and moving injured soldiers in the field easier. Stretchers typically need two people to move them; my design will mean that only one person would be needed. It’s early stages yet, but I have decided that the first prototype will have power-assistance on one end and use one wheel or ball for greater cross-terrain mobility. I am also looking into what medical equipment could be stored in the stretcher unit so that injuries can be dealt with by one person on the spot.”

We look forward to seeing Sebastian test his stretcher prototype around the School grounds in due course.

Sebastian joined Downside in the Fourth Form as a full boarder, having previously been at Sherborne Prep. He is also studying Physical Education and Business Studies at A level.
