Pizzerias are some of the first in the UK to showcase a new brand proposition with a theatre kitchen at their heart

The nation’s best-loved sociable pizzeria, PizzaExpress, has unveiled its new ‘test and learn’ brand proposition in Bath, making its Theatre Royal and Southgate Centre pizzerias on Barton Street and Southgate Place two of the first in the UK to showcase the new look.

PizzaExpress Theatre Royal will re-open on 28 September, with PizzaExpress Southgate Centre following shortly after on 12 October, revealing the sociable pizzerias’ evolution in the South West for the first time. Coming 54 years after the first opening, the new format builds on the original vision of founder, Peter Boizot, and stems from his simple ethos – to bring people together over great pizza and good times through shared passions – food, drink, music and creativity. A new portrait of Peter takes pride of place in both pizzerias in celebration of the man who first introduced pizza to the UK in 1965.

Having used ‘open kitchens’ since before the term was coined, both pizzerias feature kitchens at their heart, bringing the theatre and authenticity of PizzaExpress’ craft to the fore and making it centre-stage. Festoon lighting highlights the expert pizzaiolos as they flare the dough, with striking timber borders framing them hard at work. White marble tables are dotted around the dining areas, creating an intimate experience for up to 122 diners at Theatre Royal and 204 at Southgate Centre.  Teal, yellow and rose furnishings compliment the re-design further and make the space even warmer and inviting.

Superfans in Bath will also be delighted as both pizzerias will open with the fresh Autumn menu, which sees the return of the Calzone! Coming in hot, the Calzone ‘Nduja includes spicy, soft ‘nduja sausage, pepperoni, Roquito peppers, red chilli and hot green peppers, with tomato, mozzarella and topped with pancetta and gran Milano cheese.  Of course, vegetarians and vegans are covered; the Calzone Verdure is bursting with roasted peppers, aubergines and courgettes, with spinach, smoky tomato harissa, tomato, chilli and garlic oil, with a touch of rosemary for good measure.

Josh Liddle, PizzaExpress Theatre Royal Pizzeria Manager said: “We’re excited to welcome our Bath superfans back to our stylish new pizzeria, which now showcases the kitchen at its heart, designed to allow our customers to watch our talented pizzaiolos freshly handmake their pizzas to order.”

Simon Haggan, PizzaExpress Southgate Centre Pizzeria Manager added: “Our refurbishments have come at an especially exciting time as we bring back the calzone, which features on our brand new Autumn menu and gives loyal customers the chance to the slice up and devours one of the best ways to enjoy pizza and have good times, together with us in our brand-new pizzeria.”
