MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS
BATH SPA UNIVERSITY
Closing Date: 21 May 2019
One of the country’s leading modern universities, formally established in 2005 but with a local heritage stretching back some 160 years, Bath Spa is a dynamic humanities, arts and social sciences university which champions creativity and enterprise across all its activities.
Based in and around stunning campuses, we are determinedly student-centric, offering innovative teaching and learning, with a strong focus on student support and well-being, as well as expanding research excellence, and state-of-the-art facilities. Our role as an institution is to provide an environment and a culture in which our students can expand their learning, skills, knowledge and experience and ‘turn their passion into a profession’.
With an annual turnover of around £80m, we are now finalising our strategy for the next ten years, and are seeking new board members to support our senior executive team as it guides the University on its exciting next stage of development.
The University is governed by a Board of Governors which has overall responsibility for the strategy, direction and performance of the institution. The board comprises a range of high calibre individuals from a variety of academic and non-academic backgrounds. We are seeking to recruit up to four new board members, with diverse experience, who will bring a fresh, supportive and challenging interest and insight into the issues and opportunities facing the University.
Governors bring thoughtful and mature contribution to our institutional planning, are principled and innovative. A willingness to be challenging but constructive, and a strong strategic focus are essential attributes for these roles.
We are also seeking a broad range of relevant skills and backgrounds including:
- Experience or knowledge in the University’s key areas of endeavour, including art and design, creative arts and education
- Business and management at senior level
- Legal and HR
- Finance and audit
- Fundraising
- Property
- Knowledge and experience of governance
- Knowledge of our local area and region
The role of Governor is likely to require a minimum time commitment of around ten days a year. All roles are unremunerated, although reasonable expenses will be covered.
