On Friday 16 November, Dorothy House Hospice Care invited guests including family, friends and colleagues of benefactor, Frank Collins, partner at Mogers Drewett, to attend the opening and dedication ceremony for the new Collins Wing at the Hospice in Winsley. Frank is the son of Roy and Joyce Collins who lived in Devizes since 1982. They were loyal supporters of Dorothy House during their lives and both generously left legacies to the Hospice in their wills. The event included a reception, speeches and a tour of the new wing.
Last year Dorothy House received about a quarter of its income from gifts in wills, a hugely valuable source of funds to enable the Hospice to provide vital palliative and end of life care. The Collins Wing houses the Hospice’s new Clinical Coordination Centre and hub for the Greenhouse Innovation Team. The Clinical Coordination Centre provides a 24/7 advice line for patients, families and professionals as well as a streamlined referral process ensuring that patients can access the right care at the right time.
Dorothy House Hospice Care, chief executive, John Davies said: ‘Our sincere thanks to Frank Collins and his late parents Roy and Joyce for the generous legacies they bequeathed to Dorothy House. It was a great privilege to join Frank in opening our new Collins Wing and the transformed space allows us to deliver more streamlined patient care on a 24/7 basis. Since 1976, the hospice has cared for over 45,000 patients and their families in the local community and this has been made possible by the generosity of supporters like the Collins family who have helped make Dorothy House the special place it is today.”
Dorothy House supporter, Frank Collins who is a partner at Mogers Drewett in Bath said: “I am delighted to see my parents’ legacies to Dorothy House bearing fruit in a wonderful new wing at the Hospice as both of them had huge respect for the work of the charity. I know they would have been proud to play a part in the significant evolution of hospice services provided by the Clinical Coordination Centre and Greenhouse team.”
The Hospice provides free, palliative and end of life care across 700 sq. miles, serving a population of 550,000 people across Bath and North East Somerset (BaNES), Wiltshire and Somerset. The Hospice offers support, advice and care from early diagnosis onwards and patients, their families or carers can be referred by their GP or other Health and Social Care professionals. Providing our services requires significant funds and for every £1 from the NHS, we have to raise a further £4.
